Brahminist fascism killed Rohith Vemula but we are equally responsible

Tuesday, January 19, 2016

If our deep slumber in the bed of self satisfaction is not yet over, then we must go through the minute details of how the Brahminist fascist system, which happens to be the cardinal system used by the Indian ruling classes to rule and oppress our people, has killed a talented research scholar like Rohith Vemula, then we must slap ourselves to get out of the hangover caused by the intoxicating spurious spirit pumped into us by the ruling classes.

The theory of personal depression, frustration and other such psychological factors playing the key role behind Rohith's decision to end his life are making rounds in the press that plays the role of a pawn for the ruling classes of the country. The blind supporter brigade of the saffron brigade has washed off its hand from the incident, batting for the ruling saffron brigade, the supporters of the government has claimed that the suicide was a personal decision and Rohith has not blamed anyone for this arbitrary action.

However, no one cares or rather dares to explore the reasons that may have played the catalyst role behind the death of the  young research scholar. Why would a research scholar end his life after being discriminated on his caste grounds, rusticated from the central university, called names due to his caste and persecuted continuously by a powerful lobby that tried to end his career and future prospects in every way possible?

Being a scientist and a research scholar, Rohith had ample opportunities, in this country and more outside it, to make a career and live a life that he have ever wanted. Probably he could have turned into another great writer on science topics, or could have seen his favourite stars and constellations using a good telescope at a later part of his life.

However, unlike our upper caste middle class self-styled patriots who talk much about the country and its woes at one time and leaves it for a greater career opportunity at the next hour, Rohith tried to bring forth a change in the tradition of socio-economic oppression and discrimination that the Dalit, Tribals, minority communities face in this country.

Unlike Ambedkar and Mayawati he was not a self proclaimed liberator of the Dalits and other oppressed communities of the whole country. He was carrying out his just struggle against the Brahminist hegemonic fascism peddled by the ruling dispensation controlled by the Nagpur based RSS. He opposed the nefarious design of officially consolidating the thousands of year old reactionary system of caste and creed based repression as the governing system of the country.

Exhibiting his educated mindset (as per the Brahminist ruling class and their subscribers, he has none, as he managed his admission through the 'reservation' gateway. Talent and education are sole trademarks of the upper castes of Hindu society as per Manu doctrine) he only asked for a right and just social order, if not outside the campus, then at least within it.

Rohith and his comrades of the Ambedkar Students Association only advocated social reforms to ensure that the oppressed castes and communities of the country can get the minimal respect and acknowledgement that they deserve, if not the right to rule and engineer their own destiny.

Alas! Their asking was wrong. It somewhere sounded like those bloody Naxalites who had been advocating a social revolution and destruction of the semi-feudal production relations that they blame to be the root cause of all socio-economic evils of the country, including but not limited to caste apartheid.

Hence, the RSS and its half pant wearing foot soldiers like the ABVP brigade of patriots and their commander Bandaru Dattatreya wasted no time in stamping Rohith and his fellow ASA associates as 'anti-national' elements. Their favourite jargon to demean those who dare to question the atrocious system laden on the people by the saffron stooges of global monopoly and finance capital.

No, the stamp of being an 'anti-national' or a 'terrorist sympathiser' could not discourage the youth like Rohith and his associates. They are no Shahrukh Khan, as they do not have any forthcoming film with potential to earn billions. So these leftist students ignored the warning bell and continued their crusade against the caste oppression, the most barbaric remnants of feudalism that are so prominently visible in the country, which aims to be a global powerhouse.

Rohith and his  comrades were throwing light on the flesh and bone of the social system of the country, which the ruling classes and their laymen followers always try to conceal with the most flashy garments and eye catching ornament. But Rohith Vemula and other students who were pursuing the truth were making the naked image of the ruling classes quite public. This did panicked the ruling dispensation, which took it as an offence from a group of Dalit who doesn't even have the right to look up at the face of an upper caste elite Hindu. Rohith and his friends definitely deserved the punishment, and it followed with a rustication order from the University Vice Chancellor.

Through the harsh experiences of their lives, Rohith and his comrades knew well that the Indian ruling classes and the affluent upper middle classes of the country are hardcore hypocrites. Rohith and students like him, who were not born with a silver spoon, experienced this hypocrisy more than anyone else as they were at the receiving end of the biases that are very much an Indian version of extreme apartheid.

The rich, super rich, and affluent urban upper middle classes of the country consists mostly the upper castes of the Hindu caste hierarchy system. The members of the above classes and castes on one hand claims themselves to be anti-casteist and denies the existence of any kind of caste or communal discrimination in India; while on the other hand, they are the harbinger of the most notorious caste and communal bias, which goes to the extent of extreme caste oppression and apartheid.

The rich and the affluent upper middle classes swears allegiance to the idea of 'One India', as would any RSS stalwart swear allegiance to the idea of an 'Akhand Bharat'. However, in practice their evangelical preaching on caste and national equality goes down the gutter as fast as the RSS brand of nationalism starts with the concept of killing Muslims and subjugating Dalits and Tribal people.

The upper caste Hindus from the rich and affluent sections of the class divided society of the country cries foul when they see few people from the broad masses of Dalit or Tribals making their way up to institutions of higher education (which are only meant for the elites), or a mere clerical government job. The veil of 'tolerance' for all castes and creeds goes off very quickly in such cases; vociferously the affluent upper castes call such little achievements of the Dalit and Tribals an act of trespassing on their reserved domain. The upper caste affluent 'nationalist' and 'patriot' forces claim that the little bit reservation that the people of the scheduled castes, tribes and backward castes enjoy has actually killed competition in the country, talent is being compromised, etc. They imply through their words and deeds that the Dalits, Tribals and religious minorities of the country are second class citizens and should live a life like the Jews in Nazi Germany.

The point blank range firing aims at the people of oppressed castes, communities and tribes. Often the biased remarks and assaults will start with colour, language, hereditary profession, religious beliefs or rituals. The attackers are the same, the upper caste rich Hindus, while the targets are either Dalits, Tribals, Muslims and Christians.

Rohith had no scope to win his battle against these dark forces of history using the reformist platform. He was stripped of the battle gears, if any, and was thrown in the arena to fight against the well armed enemies, the hungry beasts thirsty for his blood. Rohith fought as much as he could and succumbed to his injuries. He died because he had no more weapons with him, he died as the beasts kept on slicing him into pieces using their sharp edged sword and knives. Rohith died, because we never taught him to fight with the sword with the enemies who understand no written words and does not appreciate any beautifully composed symphony.

Rohith died simply because we let him die. He died as we were busy fighting for his rights on Facebook and Twitter. Rohith was killed because we never taught him to fight like a lion with those beasts who were using his blood as a mark of their triumph against the oppressed castes and communities once again. Rohith Vemula died because we never taught him to stop pleading, to stop thinking that seeing his plight and agony the emperor will change his mind. We failed Rohith as we never told him clearly that he can liberate himself and others only by dethroning the monarch and by establishing a just and fair kingdom.

It is our time to retrospect what went wrong with us that we are losing our comrades, our people, our nation, our lands, our water, our sky, and our resources to the ruling classes. Why are those people who talk highly about changing the system radically, are confined within the narrow fragments of reformism and on each instance of confrontation with the enemy they like to come out as victims rather than victorious warriors?

We need to introspect our shortcomings, we need to rectify ourselves, we must seek redemption from Rohith and those all like him whom we lost to the enemies of mankind. If you still want to get back to your comfortable shelter, if you are seeking refuge inside the warm quilt now, then you are nothing more than a secret agent of the ruling classes and you're actively assisting the ruling classes to establish the Brahminist hegemonic fascism.
