The Emergence of Beef Politics - A Strategy of the BJP Regime to Divert Mass Attention

Monday, October 19, 2015

The cow has turned violent, started preying on human beings, and have suddenly turned into a terror factor across the nation. The cow belt of India is being expanded by the RSS and its affiliates continuously under the patronage of the Modi government, to ensure that the saffron outfits can indoctrinate the major part of the diverse Hindu community with its puritanical view point of Brahminist hegemony and vegetarianism.

After the death of Mohammad Akhlaq in Dadri district of Uttar Pradesh at the beginning of this month, a nationwide outcry was heard that condemned the fascist aggression of the Sangh family outfits. Noted authors and poets started protesting against the religious fanaticism promoted by the ruling dispensation led by Modi and motivated by RSS. Students and youth across the nation protested against the gruesome and barbaric lynching of Akhlaq by the saffron camp and the BJP faced criticism from all across the world. However, despite taking the retreat course, the saffron fascist outfits lead by the RSS continued its assault on the minority Muslim community of the country. Their campaign against cow slaughter got a shot in arm with the Himachal Pradesh High Court directing the Central Government to frame anti-cow slaughter regulation for the whole nation, as well as by the Haryana Chief Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar, as he said that Muslims can only live in India if they give up beef consumption.

The motivated Sangh activists killed a youth from Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, Noman, near the capital city of Himachal Pradesh, Shimla, accusing him of cattle smuggling. The eye witnesses alleged that the murder was done in public, even when the cops of the BJP ruled state were present in the spot. However, the police only booked the accomplices of Noman on charges of cow smuggling and placed them behind bars. At the same time a youth of Kashmir, Zahid, succumbed to his injuries in AIIMS, New Delhi, after fighting death for 10 days, since the truck he was driving was targetted with petrol bombs by Sangh activists near Udhampur.

Followed by these killings the RSS mouthpiece published an article that endorsed killing of sinner 'beef eaters' and was accompanied by the usual rantings of the RSS leaders against Muslims on national corporate media platforms. The cow belt politics has started reaching the areas that were far from the traditional cow belt of India. With the Bihar elections held during the same time, the volatile atmosphere is fully used by the Sangh outfits in their service. The activities of the Sangh is also rising in Southern India, especially in Karnataka, which has turned into a hotbed of saffron fascism in the recent days.

The reason why the saffron outfits have started the aggressive campaigns against the minority communities can be traced from the utmost failures of the Modi government to provide any sort of relief to the people whom he promised 'better days'. Therefore, in order to divert the attention of the people from the real issues, including the rapid increase in the price of food grains and other essential commodities. The people of the country stands the risk of starvation, unemployment, health hazards as well as massive communal displacements following the BJP's naked foreign monopoly capital appeasing policies. The economy of the country is at the brink of severe crisis, thanks to the semi feudal production relations that has reached it's nadir.

The ruling classes always resort to waging wars or inciting communal riots in the nation if ever it has the mounting pressure of the economic and political crisis that threatens its own existence as well as instigates the masses for a popular insurrection against the régime.

Therefore, it is quite normal that the present ruling dispensation led by the clan of Modi, who is popular among the representatives of the ruling classes due to his ability to drive wedge between the people on communal lines and advancing the cause of the corporate capital. This is what had been notoriously known as the 'Gujarat Model' in the political circle of India, a model quite hyped by foreign monopoly capital funded mainstream media, and gulped by the uncritical middle class as a path of salvation from all woes that paralyses the nation and its economy.

Hence, as the time passes on and the economic crisis of the Western countries, especially the US ripens, satellite countries like India and its people will be burdened with the heaps of the economic crisis caused due to the inherent laws of monopoly and finance capital. The more heavier the burden gets, the more acute the crisis gets. This continues for a time period that ends with the economic crisis transforming into political one. The melting point where the present production relations and productive forces enter into a face to face battle. The eve of a social revolution.

Representatives of the ruling classes are hence entrusted with the job of preventing the economic crisis to reach beyond the threshold point of political crisis, and in order to comply with the regulations set by the ruling classes their political representatives always engineers plans of divisive politics, as a contingency plan to keep public outrage against their misrule in a state of total disarray.

The holy cow issue is getting undue importance from the ruling quarters due to the very same reasons. The cow is now used as a shield and blanket cover to hide the severe shortcomings and utmost failures of the ruling dispensation led by Modi. The endeavour of the saffron extremists will be to divert mass attention from the real issues affecting the people and impose its fascistic version of puritan Brahminist Hindutva theology on the country by repressing the minorities, and polarising the voters to secure their political future, especially in the newly expanded cow belt.
