Syrian Crisis Synopsis

Monday, September 07, 2015

The mainstream corporate media is busy propagating the greatness of the philanthropist European governments who have opened their door to the refugees of the Syrian war crisis fleeing to their countries en-masse. Just last week the picture of a three year old toddler, dead on the sea shore went viral, and the people over social media started questioning the intention of the European nations, for not opening their doors to these refugees who are fleeing a worst massacre carried on by the Islamic State militants.

The decision by the EU member countries, especially the hawk of the EU, Germany, was made in haste to appease the growing dissent among the people of their country, who despised the racist decision of their governments to turn a blind eye on the plight of the refugees. Numerous people have lost their lives since the refugees started sailing towards Europe and many more continues to lose their lives while attempting to flee the war torn Syrian land.

However, if we look five years back, the situation was not so grim and deadly. The Syrian people were living well in their land and no band of zealots were occupying their cities and butchering men, raping women, and killing toddlers. The archaeological assets of Syria were intact, and there was no mass murders and genocides committed in the last bastion of the Baath Party in the Gulf. The women and men were equal before law, there was no barbaric Sharia law, and the women, alike their counterparts in Saddam Hussein ruled Iraq, could study and work in the country without confining within a veil. Then suddenly started a dark age in the history of one of the oldest human civilization on earth.

The US government, which allows the brutal and savage regime of the Saudi monarchs, their long time lackey and watchdog in the Middle East Asia, could not tolerate the Syrian government which gave more freedom to the public, especially the women, and made great advances on its own. As Syrian government had its knots tied with the Russian government, the oil and gas of Syria were therefore going to Russia; the Iranians too had good ties with Damascus, and US was no where in the scenario to get any share of the energy pie of Syria. The anti Syrian war plot was developed in Washington long before, during the days of the Clinton administration. The Syrian government led by Hafez al-Assad started to move towards a pro-market economy from a state capitalist society during the end of 1990's, especially following the events in Soviet Union, which was their long time ally. The change of economic policy did not enrich the US and its allies and the Russians got the upper hand over the Yankees. This made the Bush administration target Syria as a potential threat, despite keeping it off the 'Axis of Evil', the term coined by the notorious President Bush, who included the independent and non capitulating governments of Iraq-Iran and North Korea in this group.

Since the early spring of 2011, the US incited its stooges, mostly the rich politicians, religious bigots funded by Saudi Arab and Qatar, and some pro US elements within Syria, who were not able to get a better share of the country. Getting their hands on the Syrian oil, gas and other petroleum resources was the primary aim of the US and EU backed so-called rebellion in the country. The reason was obviously to topple the government of Bashar al-Assad by force and establish a puppet regime of Washington in Syria, alike the post-Saddam Hussein Iraq.

The so-called rebellion was actually a foreign funded act of terrorism in the sovereign Syrian territory, the pro-US forces got immense funding from the US and its European and Gulf allies, Turkey provided them free flow of smuggled weapons, and Saudi Arab provided all possible support to the Salafist and Wahabi Sunni zealots to expand their presence in the country with Sunni majority. The experiment done by the US in Iraq after toppling the Baath government of Saddam Hussein, to pit one sect of Muslims against another was replicated in Syria, which later crystallised into the Islamic State terror group. The pitting of Sunni against the Shi'ite and vice versa, paid well for the US led bloc, which used the ethnic division between the communities to divide the people and farther its own cause of forming an anti Damascus regime.

The rise of the US sponsored terror groups devastated the ancient country, which has been a symbol of ethnic unity and diverse cultures. While speaking about the Syrian nation before the trouble started brewing, Dr. Bouthania Shaaban, the political and media adviser to President al Assad, told the International Action Centre, “Syria was formerly one of the fastest developing countries in the world, and one of the safest. We have free education and health care. We did not know poverty; we grew our food and produced our own clothing. At universities, 55 percent of the students were women. In whose interest is it to destroy this heritage? Who is the beneficiary of this?” Then suddenly, everything started falling apart.

The US and the European hawks started campaigning through their pet media like, Fox, CNN, etc, that Syrians are fighting for their freedom, which is supported by the US and its partners. The regime of Damascus was portrayed as a villain and the so-called "Free Army" aka puppets of the US, were called the harbinger of "Freedom" and "Democracy". The pro- US forces in Syria launched one after another huge assaults on the government of Syria, by targetting mostly innocent citizens and using them as shield from the advance of the government forces. The battle saw huge loss of human life in the fields, and the large part of the country was slowly turned into graveyard.

The conflict continued with the Syrian government forces, which is often termed as the best and most disciplined force of the Arab world, driving the trouble mongers and terrorists off the Syrian territory. The terrorist factions like the Free Syrian forces started receiving huge setbacks in the hand of the Syrian army. At this juncture, the Islamic State militants, containing bigots from all parts of the globe assembled under a former cleric turned CIA agent Al Baghdadi as their so called 'Caliph', started taking forward the cause of the Syrian anti-government terrorists, by capturing huge areas with the covert support of the terror forces directly funded by the US and EU, and on the other hand they started sectarian hate campaigns in the territory occupied by them.

The Syrian government did not lose the focus, it continued the fight against the ISIS and other Syrian militants attempting to topple the government in Damascus. The resolute fight of the Syrian government, followed by the intervention in the global arena on a large scale, forced the US to officially open the front against ISIS, which is limited to airstrikes. However, soon it was found that the US bombers were more keen to leave apart the real ISIS targets and bomb elsewhere though their media houses started broadcasting absurd stories about US air force victories against ISIS targets. The ISIS rather multiplied their numbers, thanks to the covert assistance provided by the US stooges in the region like Turkey, which provided arms and human smuggling channel through their 800 km long border with Syria. The ISIS captured new towns and strategic locations in the country, amidst the so-called American engagement with their militants.

Iran, the natural ally of Syria provided it all possible assistance to counter the growth of the menace like ISIS, and the Hezbollah, which is banned as the US for being a 'terror' organisation, joined the fray with the Syrian government to fight the ISIS. The Kurdish left forces, especially the People's Defence Units or YPG / YPJ, popularly known as Rojava, also started waging a strong battle against the ISIS militants, often driving them off from different territories. Despite their social-democratic outlook these forces of the left has achieved great victories in giving befitting reply to the Islamic state terrorists.

The US, despite protecting the forces fighting the ISIS and its terror machine in the frontline, provided all possible covers to the Islamic State through its puppet Syrian opposition forces, the US also used the ISIS as a shield to bomb over strategic locations in Syria, which helped the ISIS in turn to advance in their misadventure. Turkey, an ally of the US, which has promoted arms smuggling into Syria to hasten the regime change operation, has also joined the American bandwagon to bomb and shell the forces fighting the ISIS terrorists.

The Russian government has repeatedly said that the main problem in Syria is the US desire to see a regime change, for which the US is playing all possible tricks, starting from funding the terrorist opposition, to raising the IS units through its Saudi and Israeli stooges. The Russian government, a long time ally of the Syrian government in the international arena, has asked the US from desisting in the regime change operation and sit to discuss the possible resolution of the Syrian crisis that it has created. Russia even persuaded the Syrian government to share power with a healthy and constructive opposition. However, the US has repeatedly declined all such amicable solutions and have repeatedly insisted on toppling the government of al-Assad with its own puppet regime.

As long as the US and the European hawks will be busy in inciting trouble within the sovereign territory of Syria, the government of the Baath Party will continue to resist the terrorist forces along with its allies like the Hezbollah, Iranian government. The Kurdish left wing forces within Iraq and Syria will also continue to resist and defeat the Islamic State terrorism by fighting hard against the terror outfit and its overt and covert supporters. Hence, there seems to be no possible solution of the Syrian crisis in a peaceful way in the near future.

As long as this deliberately flared war of the US led puppet terror blocks continue, there will be less hope for any peace, and there will be no reduction in the number of Syrians fleeing to European nations to seek asylum from the massacres committed at the battlefield by the US sponsored terror groups along with the ISIS.

German and other European governments may have temporarily allowed the entry of refugees in its territory, however, their solution is neither amicable nor a durable one. As the refugee situation is deliberately created by the US and its allies in the Syrian territory through their mercenary forces, which are on a rampage across the nation. The longer the conflict is financed and supported by the US and its allies (and they have no choice but to continue with their notorious plan), higher will be the number of refugees entering Europe. It will soon create ethnic tension in European states, which are reeling under the juggernaut of economic depression as well as has turned into the free turf of the neo-fascist forces. The Syrian refugees stands greater risks at the foreign lands, as they neither have much scope to resume normal life in those countries, which are now following austerity measures as per the directive of international monopoly capital.

Hence, it is very much urgent that the international community of peace loving, democratic, socialistic, and progressive forces build up a massive campaign against the US sponsored terrorist war in Syria, to raise a campaign to support the Syrian government's resolve to fight and wipe off the maniac forces like the ISIS and the Free Syrian Army, and to press their respective governments and the United Nations to build up pressure on the US and its allies in Middle East Asia like, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Qatar, and the European allies like Germany, France, Britain, Turkey, etc to reach a peaceful solution on the Syrian crisis without interfering into the Syrian sovereignty.
